Enalapril (enam, vazotek) refers to an ACE inhibitor drugs. The mechanism of action of enalapril is that it inhibits the conversion of renin angiotensin – a biologically active substance, which leads to a reduction in blood vessels and increase blood pressure.

Application: used as enalapril in hypertension and heart failure. It dilates blood vessels and lowering blood pressure, reduces blood flow to the heart. As a result, decreases the load on the heart.

Enalapril can be used as one, and in combination with other drugs to lower high blood pressure. It is also used after myocardial infarction, reducing damage to the heart muscle. In addition, enalapril is used to prevent kidney disease in diabetes mellitus.

How to take: enalapril is generally administered at doses ranging from 2.5 to 40 mg 1-2 times a day. Dose depends on the degree of hypertension. In addition, enalapril can be administered and during hypertensive crisis, in this case, the tablet is placed under the tongue and dissolves.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Enalapril is not recommended during pregnancy because it may harm the fetus. In addition, the drug is not recommended for women who breast-feeding a baby.

Side effects: Enalapril in general, well tolerated and side effects of a minor and temporary. Almost all ACE inhibitors, which include enalapril, a typical side effect, like a dry cough. After stopping treatment, coughing stops. Other possible side effects of enalapril include: abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, chest pain, numbness of fingers and toes, skin rashes, sore throat.

Precautions: Before taking enalapril, tell your doctor if you have any of the conditions described below: allergic to any drugs, renal failure, liver, hyperkalemia, dehydration, stroke, vascular pathology, diabetes mellitus. While receiving enalapril is not recommended to drink alcohol. In addition, because the drug may cause dizziness, it is recommended to be careful when driving a car or other physical activity.
