Hernia – a protrusion, or going out of any internal organ from the cavity, where it is located, a congenital or pathologically shaped hole in the wall of a cavity. This maintains the integrity of the membranes that cover the body blubber. Most often, this bulge becomes more prominent in the muscle wall tension, for example. inguinal hernia is more noticeable at a voltage of the abdominal muscles, which is associated with increased intra-abdominal pressure. A hernia may increase during heavy exercise, heavy lifting, and even coughing.
There are many types of hernias. Most of their names indicates the place of exit, for example, inguinal, femoral, lumbar, and so on, some – in the name of a physician who described them (eg, Richter hernia). The most common types of hernias include inguinal hernia, in which the hernial sac is in the inguinal canal, femoral – hernia goes along the large vessels on the inside of the thigh at the site of the release of the vessels of the abdomen, umbilical – hernias goes through the umbilical ring, diaphragmatic – the hernial the bag passes through the hole in the diaphragm, abdominal – as a consequence of abdominal wall trauma, if the muscle fibers is not fully recovered. A hernia happens inside the abdominal cavity, if it comes, for example, through the sciatic foramen, these hernias are rare and large do not matter.
The cause of hernia is the weakness of the wall cavity, from which comes a hernia, which leads the formation of the defect wall. This is facilitated by factors such as increased intracavitary pressure (eg, intra-abdominal thrust with coughing, weight lifting), and congenital defects in the wall cavity or cleft congenital openings.
Hernias can be congenital or acquired. Congenital hernias lie in the fact that there is a cleft of certain holes and channels, for example, in the case of congenital inguinal hernia, cleft when there is a so-called processus vaginalis. Acquired hernias are associated with excessive exercise, subject to predisposing factors, such as the weakness of the abdominal wall.
By their localization the following types of hernias:

  • Inguinal
  • Scrotal
  • Femoral
  • Lumbar
  • Umbilical
  • Diaphragmatic
  • Postoperative ventral
  • Other hernia, obturator hernia, such as holes, spigelievoy line, epigastrium, and others are rare.

In addition, the hernia can be bilateral.
